Should TikTok be banned?

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has been requested by the UK security minister, Tom Tugendhat, to investigate TikTok’s safety due to these concerns.

The app has been blocked in various ways by numerous countries, mostly on government-owned devices, these include, Belgium, Denmark, the USA and Canada, other countries including India, Taiwan, Pakistan and Afghanistan have taken a stronger approach to the bans banning the app for the public sector, however, most of these bans are temporary.

TikTok has stated that it takes the safety and security of its users very seriously and has denied any wrongdoing. According to the company, it has never given the Chinese government any user data and stores all user data outside of China. ByteDance which is the parent company of TikTok based in China, have stated that their employees can access TikTok data, Chinese businesses are required by national security laws to share access to the data they collect with the government upon request. recently TikTok has discussed separating from ByteDance to avoid bans within the U.S.

Those who are concerned about the app’s safety will be happy to hear about the NCSC’s investigation. However, it is important to note that the investigation is still in its infancy, and the NCSC’s conclusions cannot be predicted at this time.
