Technology is moving at an alarming speed and Self-driving cars pose a huge threat if they aren’t designed with security at the forefront.
Self-driving cars
As we all become more tech savvy and technology becomes more and more integrated with our everyday lives’ automation offers new and terrifying risks. The concept of automated driving does bring some benefits such as more effective road transportation as cars will be able to run at optimum speed with less incidents if they all run correctly. Picking the best routes and allowing more productivity on car journeys is another prospect this offers.
Self-driving risks
Hypothetically someone could take over notable individuals’ cars or over a fleet of cars and hold certain roads/people hostage. As this is groundbreaking design it is quite hard to make a full judgement on how this will work in a real-world scenario.
What could the future look like in prevention
Prevention for scenarios like this could be anti-virus for cars, this would be looking at who is left responsible for the vehicle. This would be the assumption of the car being connected to the internet and attacks being possible over a global network.
Geolocation
Cars being self-driven would have to use a form of geolocation to plan routes and track where they are and events. An interesting interaction would be a VPN being used to effectively scramble this if an internet connection is required to run.
