Social media accounts are far too susceptible to attack and allow multiple avenues to anyone who wants to pursue an attack.
Private your account
As of now you most people can go onto their social media accounts and fine individuals who are either following them that they don’t know. Or have added but they aren’t sure who they are or who they are related to. This enables so many variables allowing prospective attacks to come from more directions and lack clarity.
Social media’s volume risk
The more users in a circle that can interact and share an internet space the more users that can be compromised. Leading to the compromised account to have multiplicative opportunities of spreading. One area to consider is how some attackers want numerous zombie accounts to comb for data and allow attacks to be conducted at the same time.
Why keep your account open?
Honestly there is little justification to having an open social media account and allowing anyone to view what you do where you live and other personal information. For example, they could comb users’ profiles and be making calculated guesses to attain access to other accounts. How many users have their pet or relative/maiden name as a password and how many users share that across multiple accounts.
Curating social media
Curating your personal space and knowing who is viewing your profile is nothing but a good thing. It allows you to get better social media interaction as you will be following only your interests. It is a similar concept to a walled garden it ensures your space is safe and reduces any outside interference.
