Fatigue The Enemy Of Security

Fatigue is a huge risk to cyber security with a lot of staff being overwhelmed.

Summary of the fatigue

Fatigue in this context is around user access rights. As many organisations have large amounts of users or clients with accounts the sheer volume of accounts can be a tremendous area to overview. If you get multiple requests in a short period for anything it is difficult to not enable the request with minor oversight this can leave to issues.

Pressure and culture

Workplace pressure for resolving issues quickly and moving onto the next issue can lead to oversights. It is important to understand that consistent training and creation of a culture where things are checked and rushing isnt a part of the job.

Large universities fatigue

Large universities are one of the parties at risk from fatigue this is due to the large amount of students and issues. If you think about the sheer volume of students calling in with issues early on in the year to attain access or access going wrong it is easy to understand issues.   

Ubers breach

As found in recent new stories such as uber being bombarded with push notifications for MFA requesting a confirmation as this didn’t work employees were messaged to confirm and after numerous attempt they finally got access.
