Communication channels and systems are a integral part of any business operating especially after the pandemic.
Communication systems
Some common forms of communication used by businesses are forms such as Teams, Slack and WhatsApp. These systems often help with enabling teams to working together and co-operate with each other remotely they are seen as an essential part of business.
Risk
Risks created from these forms of communication are numerous, the most obvious issue being confidential or dangerous information. This often needs to be controlled by a set of rules and by the businesses management of the communication platform.
Access rights can be another risk giving individuals who request access full access can enable the acquisition of important information. Enabling and individual to contact multiple people they dont need to does open up more inherent risk to the business.
Access after the individual has left the organisation a issue that often comes up in conversation. This needs to be controlled and managed as there are issues often found with access being enabled for people who have left.
Communication channel choices
Slack and Teams are excellent choices across businesses as they allow removal of rights from individuals who have left. The area where this becomes tricky is around WhatsApp this is a secure communication platform however individual conversations cannot be controlled or amended this leaves a situation where company information can be kept by an individual who has left.
What should you do?
Selecting one communication channel and using only that one is important. Having multiple channels makes them overall more difficult to manage. Slack or Teams are excellent choices to use across businesses and as stated previously WhatsApp is more difficult to manage.
