I’d like to gain ISO 9001 but how much will this cost me?
It’s such a good question but I’ll have to be honest, there are a number of variables before I could begin to provide you with an exact figure, after all, it’s not like buying a bar of chocolate from us. However, don’t be disheartened I will provide you with a guide, so at least you have some idea and then we can take it from there.
1. How many people work in your business?
Should this really matter? Well, I’m afraid it does. Knowing how large your business is will determine how many internal processes you will follow and this will determine how much of your ISO 9001 consultants time it will take to review the significant parts of your business and ultimately how many days your consultant will need to support you during your formal assessments.
2. How many offices/sites do you have?
Like my previous point, having multiple sites that you want to be included in the scope of your ISO 9001 quality management system will mean that your ISO 9001 consultant and your certification body auditor will need more time to get around these sites to ensure that your quality management system meets the requirements to be awarded your ISO 9001 certification.
3. Do you provide your products or services on your client’s sites?
Providing products or services that you produce/carry out on your client’s sites will also add additional consultants and auditors time and will add to the overall project value to gain ISO 9001. It’s important as part of the ISO 9001 implementation process that we witness the work being carried out on your client’s site to ensure that processes and procedures are being followed as described by the office team.
4. Is your business a high-risk business?
Examples of a high-risk business would be an industrial gas installation; road and rail construction; RAMP-side at airports; installation of some ventilation systems. High risk companies will require increased audit days for a more thorough examination of operating procedures.

Once your ISO 9001 consultant has gathered the above information, they will then be able to provide you with a formal proposal.
Based on 1 site/office, with less than 20 employees and not providing a service at your client’s premises, with a low-risk operation will be approximately £5,500 + VAT, plus the fee to your chosen certification body which is likely to be around £2,000. So as a guide, you are looking at around £7,500 + VAT to become ISO 9001 certified.
