Ex Twitter Employee Has Dangerous Access To Source Code

An employee on twitter has recently announced they still have access to Twitters GitHub and possible source code after leaving.

Twitter access

Having left over 18 months ago a user named Al Sutton has claimed they still have access to the companies restricted GitHub. Basic levels of access management and control are clearly not enforced across the business as this should never happen in a business this advanced managing social media.

What does this mean?

At the lowest level this shows poor management and access control as this should never happen especially for the length this has. High level risks from this come from releasing source code to the public allowing anyone to access Twitter and doing harm to its users.

How does this happen?

One way this could have occurred is poor management of users with a lack of structure. This is also a issue with leaver process showing that the correct parties arent notified. Handling this is key to any business and should not be overlooked as human error and poor access management lead to a lot of cyber incidents.

Twitter and others

Tech companies in general often find themselves in all forms of incidents and legal meetings as they are the cutting edge of tech but also due to the size. Large companies and complex do require a lot of management and not allocating enough resources to manage this.
