Popular games publisher Bandai Namco has had their servers breached possibly compromising customer data.
Who are Bandai Namco?
Bandai Namco the well known large game publisher and developer known for developing games such as Pokemon, Tekken and Mario Kart alongside publishing Elden Ring and Dark souls. The scale of this possible breach is startling as these titles are extermely popular meaning a lot of customer data could be compromised.
What inside Bandai Namco was breached?
This attack was is being investigated with Bandai Namco stating they are looking into the scope of what has been affective from servers to pcs allowing an indetification of the leakage.
Who conducted the attack?
ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware was first observed in 2021 the collective uses ransom as a service selling malware subscriptions to criminals. ALPHV/BlackCat uses Rust programming language. ALPHV/BlackCat has been known for working with other prominent ransomware families such as Conti, LockBit, and REvil.
The FBI believes money launderers for ALPHV/BlackCat cartel are linked to Darkside and Blackmatter ransomware cartels, indicating the group has strong network of operatives in the ransomware business.
ALPHV/BlackCat have been among the prominent and active ransomware gangs. Cybersecurity firm Digital Shadows noted that the group’s activity increased by 117% last quarter.
Most recently, ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware was used to attack the University of Pisa. Threat actors demanded that the university administration pay $4.5 million for the release of encrypted data.
