Laziness within an organisation is a huge issue for security addressing this is a key part of ensuring security is upheld within the business.
Laziness
A huge part of why errors and issues occur this is due to cutting corners or avoiding doing tasks correctly. This can be due to many reasons however we will focus on two for this article. The two we are focusing on will be looking at policies and procedures that are implemented poorly across a business. The second point is poor implementation and lack of follow up for non-conformances within the security rules.
Simplicity
Keeping things simple is very important for any rules a simple way to measure basic rules is can they be explained in one or two sentences briefly. Having overly complex rules such as 4 different sets for passwords can lead to a lot of confusion and issues.
Culture
Culture is key it enables everyone in the workplace to perform well and allows security to be at the forefront of a business. Having culture of improvement with team members supporting each other enables continually improvement but also security issues to be brought forward. Hiding mistakes often enables more mistakes and individuals will sometimes get through a list of issues before they come forward leading to issues impacting the business more.
Summary
Laziness is something that comes up around security and ensuring good practices are used. Ironically having simple easy rules is key to ensure they are followed people will choose the path of least resistance.
