New technology used by the network operator has enabled preventing scam calls be implementing better spotting and blocking of scam calls coming from overseas.
EE has stated they have blocked 11 million spam calls to their users since the July release of this technology this year.
What is the preventing technology?
AI is used with upgraded firewall technology in a statement it “reviews calls passing through UK Calling Line Identification (CLI) from other countries and blocks ones pretending to be UK based. Most scam callers are intenational pretending to be UK based to give the impression of legitimacy.
Who uses this?
BT, EE and Plusnet all use this technology to help protect customers from inbound international calls. This is a growing issue facing a lot of customers in essence it is another form of phishing and this could be used to prevent fake texts in future.
Previous preventing
Previously EE introduced a similar filter for text spam, this has enabled EE to block a total of 200 million scams since its release. EE summarised stating their customers “have the safest network”. This is due to both forms of AI based blocking being implemented.
Risk still prevalent
Scams are still prevalent and out there and knowing what to look out for and that people trying to trick you are always innovating is key. One way of reducing risk is not giving any personal information for calls you werent expecting and calling the company yourself. Often scammers will be contacting you and this is quite uncommon for most businesses to ring and ask for details.
