What does an ISO Consultant do?

Such a great question.  Everywhere you turn, seemingly someone says that they are a consultant. It’s a term that has been around for as long as I can remember. When someone starts their own business, more often than I care to think about, they go into consultancy because it seems like a logical move from their corporate roles.

However, I know you are not here for a history lesson, so what does an actual ISO Consultant do?

Here at Synergos, we help business owners create a strategic advantage through the accreditation and certification process. What!! I know, let’s start again… Here at Synergos, we help our clients to gain the certification or accreditation that will help them to become approved suppliers. There’s more to it than that but fundamentally, we all want to be a supplier of our clients.

A Consultant role?

A consultant is an experienced and qualified professional who has the knowledge and expertise to advise you on your chosen requirements. Typically, they will have several years experience and will only advise you on matters that are beneficial to your business. A consultant that comes into your business to turn it upside down and cause you immense work, I’d stay clear of.

What activities will my consultant do?

Your ISO consultant will help you develop the relevant documented policies and procedures to meet the requirements of your chosen ISO standard. In the case of ISO 9001, this will include the development of your quality policy, conducting and documenting your internal audits, chairing and documenting management review meetings etc. A good ISO consultant will ensure that everything they produce will meet the requirements of ISO 9001 and importantly it doesn’t become onerous for you to look after if you so wish.

How long will my consultant work with me?

This will really depend upon your commitment and availability during the implementation process of ISO 9001. At the start of any ISO project, you should have an agreement in place regarding the timeframe to reach your intended goal. Any delays caused by your consultant should be raised immediately so that you can quickly get back on track. A guide would be between 2-3 months for ISO 9001.

In summary

Your ISO 9001 consultant should be on hand to support you throughout the process to a successful certification. Your consultant should act as an extension to your team and develop you an ISO 9001 quality management system that reflects your business operations.

How can we help you?

If you’re in need of assistance with any aspect of ISO 9001 certification, here at Synergos we’d be delighted to discuss this with you. Whether you have questions about the path to certification or are looking for advice and support to maintain an existing standard call 01484 666160 or email team@synergosconsultancy.co.uk and we’ll be happy to talk it over with you.

Completed my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2012 I was looking to start my own business. With over 10 years improving and streamlining business systems, I grasped an opportunity to assist a local business to improve their quality and communication processes by researching the requirements of a quality management system based upon ISO 9001 and conducted my first internal audit that resulted in 97 improvement recommendations. After a successful outcome, I was recommended again and again with glowing reviews and in February 2014, Synergos Consultancy was born. I now have the role of regularly reviewing and planning the strategic direction of the business to ensure that Synergos continues to develop, whilst at the same time, still actively working closely with some of our clients. In my spare time I love to attend the theatre to watch musicals, dance productions and plays. In 2019, I attended the theatre a whopping 24 times. I follow a plant-based diet which I absolutely love. A keen tick-tock follower, I have picked up a lot of interesting recipes. A firm favourite is Brussel sprouts and sriracha sauce baked in the oven. Delicious!
