Synergos has presented a Scholarship Award to one of the talented young pupils from The Audrey Spencer School of Theatre Dance in Huddersfield.
Following an audition process where candidates took part in a jazz and tap workshop as well as performing a prepared piece of their own choreography and a song and a monologue, Emma Chapman, from Lindley in Huddersfield, was chosen as this year’s winner.
The Award is jointly funded by Synergos and the Audrey Spencer School of Theatre Dance, and is worth up to £2000 and will pay for Emma’s lessons for a whole year, enabling her to further her training through attending workshops, courses and singing lessons.
Emma, aged 16, joined the Audrey Spencer school in 2003 at the age of four and has had full involvement in the school attending classes totalling ten hours per week. She has been involved in a number of local amateur productions over the years and is currently rehearsing for the musical ‘Hairspray’ with the Huddersfield Musical Theatre Company.
Having recently started a course in Musical Theatre, Dance and Film Studies at Huddersfield New College, Emma is fully committed to aiming her career path towards musical theatre. Emma said; “I am very happy and extremely proud to have received this year’s award”.
Principal of the Audrey Spencer School of theatre Dance, Joanne Perkins, said; “Our dance pupils are very lucky to have this fantastic opportunity given to them. I’m sure many will strive over the years to achieve this award and gain valuable experience in doing so”.
