Cutting costs without cutting corners – Could you save money on your Health and Safety?

Many businesses are sceptical of investing in health and safety training because surely, it is just a case of applying common sense? But the fact is, if you don’t comply with health and safety law, you will spend more of correcting wrongs than on health and safety training in the first place.

But cutting costs doesn’t always mean cutting corners and that’s why health and safety training is a cost-effective solution.

1 You’ll be compliant with health and safety laws

It’s an employer’s legal duty where there are five or more employees to protect their health, safety and welfare at work, mental and physical health included. Part of this is the provision of information and training relating to health and safety at work – and that doesn’t mean just first aid.

Health and safety training can cover a gambit of issues that are specific to your company and with an outside training agency providing the training, your employees (and you!) will find it engaging and enjoyable too.

2 Protect your bottom line

Fines for health and safety breaches dent your bank balance and your reputation, another reason why cutting corners doesn’t work. When a worker is hurt at work, they are entitled to compensation, another significant financial outlay for you, even if your “insurance will cover it”. There is still your reputation to consider. If people don’t think you are a safe company, will they want to trade with you? Will you attract the right calibre of staff?

3 Reduce sick and/or injury leave

When staff have time off due to sickness or injury, it costs you money. Whilst some illness cannot be avoided, there are occasions when it can – and it comes down to health and safety.

If people are trained and aware of the hazards in the workplace and their level of risk, they are immediately ‘safer’ because they have the knowledge and understanding to do something about it.

Health and safety training is an investment you cannot do without.

4 Offset training costs against tax

As an expenditure, health and safety training costs are deductible against tax. Upskilling your employees and creating a healthier, improved environment is an investment that every company needs to make but costs are not as exploitative as you think.

Synergos training will save you money!

Cutting costs doesn’t mean doing something on the hop or cutting corners. With health and safety, it is essential that everyone is trained in how to work with equipment or a certain site. Keeping people safe at work is a priority and that’s why working with an external health and safety training provider makes so much sense.

Health and safety is the fence at the top of the cliff. Investing in training prevents accidents and injuries that could have been easily avoided and thus, the financial implications they bring could have been avoided too.

There are wider repercussions too, such as damage to your brand reputation, investors becoming nervous and withdrawing their capital. Why cut corners when it is possible to save money with Synergos?
