Have you ever wondered what a typical day looks like for a Business Manager here at Synergos Consultancy Ltd? Read on!
On a typical Monday morning, my alarm goes off at 7 am and I get myself ready for work. I have a four-year-old son, Seth, who I coax into getting dressed too! We sit and have breakfast together before I head off to work.
The twenty minute drive to work after drop off on my own is always very peaceful! I catch up on news on the radio whilst driving and now that the roads are a bit quieter, it is actually an enjoyable commute which gets me ready for the day ahead.
When I arrive at the office, I switch on and catch up with all my emails before following up with any new leads that have come in whilst drinking my favourite brew – a Green Tea with Jasmine. I like to be very organised and work through my client task list first to make sure I am ticking off anything that is urgent. I love working with our fantastic clients. I’ve worked at Synergos Consultancy for 2 years and have got to know them all very well, especially our maintenance clients who I check in with regularly.
I also love learning more about all the various types of businesses and industries that we work with and seeing the results they achieve, as well as checking in with them to see how it has made a difference to their businesses. We pride ourselves on being proactive, so I support them with advice on how to remain certified and that is how we retain our business, by going above and beyond.
As certification consultants, we have to book in lots of audits and reviews. So I take a look at the teams’ diaries and start to liaise with the certification bodies and clients to book in any new appointments for both internal and external audits. It can be quite a task managing everyones diaries, but now that the majority of work we do is virtual, it is actually easier to get people ‘together’ at the same time.
Once the initial diary management is done, I review any internal audits and review minutes of management reviews to make sure I am getting on with all necessary actions. I have a catch up with Jenny, our Managing Director to review numbers to make sure we are on track with our targets and turnover and discuss any outstanding tasks.
We are lucky that we have a lovely Cafe on site, so if I haven’t brought my own lunch, I pop down there to grab a takeaway sandwich to enjoy either outside on the picnic tables if it is a nice day, or at my desk if I want to have a scroll through social media while I eat. We’ve started to use social media a lot more in our marketing, so I make sure I check over and respond with answers to any questions or comments on our posts.
Speaking of marketing, after lunch we have a meeting with Laura from Laura Batchelor Marketing to go through our monthly report. We talk about all the activity we have done, the results, the plans for the next month and any changes needed to the strategy to optimise the work we are doing. It’s also a great chance for us to brainstorm any ideas we have together!
It is then time to have our team planning meeting and our New Business Co-ordinator, Annalie, goes through any daily leads and opportunities for the consultants to follow up with. We work with clients from different industries for the ISO work we do, whether they are in manufacturing, IT or services. The Health and Safety accreditations we offer are really good for the construction industry and other tradesmen. We often find they haven’t even heard of CHAS or ConstructionLine but once they go through the process with us they reap the benefits of being able to get on tender lists they weren’t able to without the accreditation.
My final task in the office is updating invoices to make sure they are all in order and occasionally chase any that are outstanding. I head home at 5 pm and my fiancé James is working from home at the moment, so usually has a lovely home cooked dinner ready for us when we get in! After we’ve eaten, we spend some time playing together as a family, often cricket in the garden if the weather is good enough, or superheroes is always a favourite!
It’s then time to start the bedtime routine with a bath, story and cuddle for Seth and then James and I finally sit down and watch Netflix together before heading off to bed, ready for another busy day! I work part-time so having that one day off a week gives me more time to spend with Seth and do the school drop off and pick up. Work is hectic when I’m here but I’m lucky that we have such a great team so I can switch off and concentrate on my family when I am at home. And that’s me ready for the next day!
