2022 Planning – Why ISO Needs To Be On Your List

Why should ISO be on your list for this year, to make sure that you reap the benefits these certifications bring?

Businesses need to start to make plans to bolster and grow in 2022. There will be many challenges but there will also be opportunities. Is your business in the right space to take advantage? Could an ISO certification be the launchpad to even more success?

What is ISO?

ISOs are certifications created by committees of industry experts. They are developed with one question in mind – how can we make this better?

Improving practice and processes will impact positively on your business, your staff and your customers:

  • Customers – providing a better quality product and/or service will see you stand above competitors. This builds trust and enhances your reputation, two factors that often open up new avenues.
  • Staff – a clearer understanding of what is required of them and how they can meet those requirements revitalises your teams, allowing them to develop and improve on their current skill set.
  • Your business – which business doesn’t want to improve productivity and efficiency? The journey to ISO certification shines a spotlight on processes, identifying duplications and weak links. Compliance is improved too.

The benefits of ISOs

We could supply you with a generic list of benefits but sometimes, understanding the benefits of specific ISOs can help determine which standard will be on your planning and development list in the coming year.

ISO 9001

On what do you base your quality management systems? Quality assurance is key across all industries, including service-based businesses too. Continually assessing and improving what you do and how you do it pushes your business forward. This ISO can set a firm basis to make this happen.

ISO 14001

Environmental management systems ensure you comply with rules and regulations but with yet more changes on the horizon, is your business agile enough to pivot and meet these demands? This certification highlights how managing and lessening your impact on the environment – locally, nationally and planet-wide – will benefit your business.

ISO 27001

Information security is as important as it ever was. Commercially sensitive information needs to be safeguarded to the highest degree. Even with robust systems in place, this certification will improve all your systems. For many industries, this is an almost ‘compulsory’ certification.

ISO 22301

Business continuity management systems will have been placed under pressure during 2020 with directors and stakeholders having to guide their businesses through turbulent times. Calm seas don’t make sailors – learn from 2020 and opt for an ISO that bolsters business agility.

Other ISOs that can bring specific benefits to an organisation include ISO 20000 for service management systems and ISO 17025 that shines a light on calibrating laboratory systems.

Will ISO be on your 2022 business plan?

There are thousands of ISOs, all of which bring specific benefits to an organisation. The question is, will 2022 be the year you embrace these internationally recognised certifications?

Completed my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2012 I was looking to start my own business. With over 10 years improving and streamlining business systems, I grasped an opportunity to assist a local business to improve their quality and communication processes by researching the requirements of a quality management system based upon ISO 9001 and conducted my first internal audit that resulted in 97 improvement recommendations. After a successful outcome, I was recommended again and again with glowing reviews and in February 2014, Synergos Consultancy was born. I now have the role of regularly reviewing and planning the strategic direction of the business to ensure that Synergos continues to develop, whilst at the same time, still actively working closely with some of our clients. In my spare time I love to attend the theatre to watch musicals, dance productions and plays. In 2019, I attended the theatre a whopping 24 times. I follow a plant-based diet which I absolutely love. A keen tick-tock follower, I have picked up a lot of interesting recipes. A firm favourite is Brussel sprouts and sriracha sauce baked in the oven. Delicious!
