In partnership with the Audrey Spencer School of Dance, we are very proud to offer for the third year, this opportunity to pupils of the dance school, who wish to aim for a career in dance.
Last year’s winner, Brooke Hale, attended the presentation and spoke of how the scholarship has helped her. During the year she has been able to attend various workshops by well-known choreographers, and attend a summer school at Urdang Academy, in London. She has also been able to take singing lessons to help with her auditions for dance college, which she will be busy doing in 2018.
Pupils who applied for this year’s scholarship participated in an audition in front of a panel. This year the panel consisted of Audrey Spencer, ex-professional performers Samantha Rawles and Claire Pinnington, and Joanne Perkins, current dance school Principal.
The audition process included workshops in Lyrical Jazz and Fosse. The pupils also learned and performed tap and jazz amalgamations as well as ballet enchainments.
The pupils then performed their choice of a song or monologue.
The process was most enjoyable for the dancers as well as the panel, who enjoyed seeing the super efforts of all those involved.
This year the award has been tied between Jenna Earnshaw (left) and Rhona Innes (right). Each of them have been awarded £1000 worth of fees covered by the scholarship. They can use the money to gain more experience to enhance their training over the coming year. We wish the girls all the very best!!
